New flat!

We've finally moved into our flat at the Chinese University. If you want to know where it is, go to Google Earth and enter "Chinese University Hong Kong". Our flat is the one at 22 degrees, 25'29.28" North; 114 degrees, 12'29.49 East (a partly-consumed bottle of glutinous rice wine to anyone who bothers...).

The flat is big, newly renovated, furnished... and very, very cold. Central heating is not something they have over here. A small fan heater is keeping us from hypothermia.

The children are happy, have made friends with some other children here on campus, and are enjoying the food and the flat. Home-schooling is going well. We'll soon make a start on looking at schools, of which there are quite a lot nearby. In the meantime, Victoria and the children continue to attract the attention of locals who seem to get much amusement from counting them all.

We're still waiting for a car; Giles has bought a bike so he can avoid the exorbitant cost of public transport (approx. 30p on the train). We do need a car though so we can buy stuff that's bigger than a small bag. "Parknshop" is the supermarket of choice... it has a version of Clubcard, has online home delivery... but not much in the way of cheese. And milk is more expensive than beer. We have found Ikea too.

However, it is now holiday season. Chinese New Year was yesterday, so Happy New Year to you all! Thursday and Friday are public holidays, and the University had an extra day off on Wednesday, which was v.convenient having just moved in on Tuesday. We also now have broadband and a landline (+852 2633 1974), so do Skype (catteg01) or ring us!
