emergency medicine

The job I'm doing here is part of a 7-year program called 'HRH' - Human Resources for Health. It's been funded from the US, and different US universities have recruited trainers for each speciality. I'm working with Brown University to train Rwandan residents (junior doctors) in Emergency Medicine (EM). They're into their 4th year now, and each year there have been a different team of three (mostly American) doctors doing the training. We work for the Rwandan ministry of health, in the main teaching hospital, CHUK (Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Kigali, below).

So far I've met the HRH program organisers at the ministry, and had a quick look round the ED at the hospital. We applied for work/resident visas and my medical licence when we arrived, which will probably take a couple of weeks. Work begins officially in August!
